British Three Valve Receiver

Seventy-five years ago this month, the August 1951 issue of the British Practical Wireless showed how to put together this handsome three tube–er, I mean valve–receiver for longwave, mediumwave, and shortwave. The set ran on dry batteries (60 volts was recommended for the B+) and provided loudspeaker volume, which was unusual for such a small receiver. It featured band switching rather than plug-in coils.
