1960 British 4 Tube Superhet Portable

1960JuneRadioConstructor11960JuneRadioConstructor2Sixty years ago this month, the June 1960 issue of the British magazine Radio Constructor carried the plans for this four-tube superhet portable, dubbed by the magazine “The Regent.” The set tuned both the longwave and mediumwave broadcast bands, and was said to be sensitive. The set was easy to construct, thanks to the use of a printed circuit board.

For those who needed help tracking down all of the parts, one of the magazine’s advertisers, Radio Component Specialists, 337 Whitehorse Road, West Croydon, had them advertised, and they could be purchased as a complete kit, or separately.

    Hello!

I am currently writing a novel set in 1965. In it, reference is made to radio communications. Is a really fascinating world, and even when I’m not a radio operator, I wanted to integrate this activity into this story; but as I investigate more, I realize it is an extremely complex subject, and therefore, I dare to comment here, because I would like to know if you happen to offer advisory services, if it is the case, its cost. Actually the reference is in one chapter, and my intention is to accurately capture certain technical aspects used at the time (equipment, notable advances of the time, terminology, etc.). Specially, I am interested in learning about the advances brought by the FFT (fast fourier transform), which, I understand, was around that time when certain devices that used it became available to public (Transceivers for example)

    I appreciate your time. Thanks!

    Arturo.

(sorry for the grammar, English is not my native lenguaje)
