I wasn’t able to make it to see the 12 August 2026 eclipse in Spain. Our home in Minnesota is right on the line where the partial eclipse was visible, so we had about 1%. I couldn’t get all the way to Spain (or Iceland), but I did drive to Duluth, where it was about 3%, so I got to see something with my eclipse glasses.  My not-so-spectacular view is shown at left.

My son, on the other hand, was able to see it for real, at Montengua Castle, about halfway between Zaragoza and Madrid.  The other pictures here are his.

The next eclipse–the longest of the century–will be on 2 August 2027.  The path of totality will once again include Spain and Gibraltar, but only the very southern portion of the Iberian peninsula will get totality.  It will also cover north Africa and the Mideast.  Spanish innkeepers learned their lesson, and hotel rooms are now priced out of my budget in Spain.  But rooms are still available at reasonable prices in Morocco, and I just made my reservations for a hotel in Tangier.
